Product Information
General Description: Thixogrease, the new generation, multi purpose grease from Power Up Lubricants, provides superior protection in the boundary lubrication regime. Thixogrease is ideal for applications where high loads, extreme pressure or high temperature cause serious metal to metal contact and wear. Superior water wash resistance and rust corrosion inhibition allow Thixogrease to excel in areas where conventional greases fail.
Thixogrease is made of a unique base which offers minimal oil separation or hardening and demonstrates excellent compatibility with many traditional soap oil greases.
Primary Benefits of Thixogrease:
The primary benefit of Thixogrease is to reduce the friction caused by asperity (metal to metal) contact in the boundary lubrication regime. It is designed for grease filled applications where high temperature, extreme pressure, water and corrosion are normal conditions.
Secondary Benefits of NNL 690-G:
* Thixogrease reduces ultrasonic wear noise which relates directly to lower component wear.
* The high dropping point and temperature pumpability of Thixogrease allow for a wide operating temperature range of -18oC to 250oC (0oF to 480oF).
* Thixogrease is formulated with superior rust and corrosion inhibitors to withstand contamination and protect critical components.
* Exceptional water wash resistance allows Thixogrease to work in marine, pulp and paper, and similar applications.
* Thixogrease has outstanding shear stability, minimizing relubrication requirements.
* Thixogrease is ideal for use in centralized lubricating systems due to its excellent pumpability.
Product Application and Availability:
Thixogrease is suitable for use in applications where multi purpose, extreme pressure grease is specified. Thixogrease is a superb lubricating grease for all types of bearings, pins and bushings, king pins, valves and many other applications in marine, agricultural, industrial, pulp and paper, and mobile equipment.
Thixogrease is available in NLGI #2 grade in 440g tubes, 17kg pails, 55kg kegs and 180kg drums; and in NLGI #0 grade in 17kg pails and 55kg kegs.
After applying LHP-454 to my BMW 540i, I reset the onboard computer that I use to monitor fuel consumption. It went from 23.9 mpg to 26.7 mpg in just under 100 miles of driving. On top of that, it seemed to have a lot more power driving around town.

Special Notations:
Operating Temperature Range:
Power Up Thixogrease has been proven to be suitable for applications at temperatures from -18oC to 250oC (0oF to 480oF). It is easily pumpable at extremely low temperatures and has a dropping point greater than 300oC, allowing its use in applications with brief excursions to 260oC.
NLGI Specifications:
Power Up Thixogrease meets or exceeds the specifications of the NLGI GB-LB classification for heavy duty chassis lubrication and medium wheel bearing applications.
Compatibility:
Where possible, it is always recommended that the old grease be cleaned out of any bearing prior to the application of a different type or grade of grease. The grease compatibility chart provided is a general guide only and may not be true for all brands of the given greases.

Boundary Lubrication Protection
Thixogrease has an excellent Timken OK Load (ASTM D2509) of greater than 32kg and a 4-Ball EP (ASTM D2596) weld load of 500kg.. These tests are used to compare extreme pressure lubricating properties of greases. The picture below shows the condition of standard steel test balls after 4-Ball EP test runs under the same load. The welded balls on the left were immersed in a typical grease while those on the right were protected by Thixogrease.
Corrosion Protection
The calcium sulphonate base used in Thixogrease has naturally superior corrosion inhibition properties. The severe Salt Fog Spray test (ASTM B117) tests the resistance of greases to corrosive salt water. The photograph below shows the difference in protection between Thixogrease and a conventional Lithium Complex grease.
Water Spray Resistance
The photograph below displays clearly how well Thixogrease resists water spray off in the ASTM D4049 test. Thixogrease remained on the metal plate despite extended, concentrated water spray.
Compatibility
Whenever two greases with different thickener systems are mixed in service, there is a possibility of incompatibility resulting in poor performance. It is always preferable and advisable to clean the old grease completely from the bearing prior to using a new grease.
